Rev Dr Paul Boafo Appointed to Continental Peacebuilding Programme

The past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, The Most Rev Dr Paul Kwabena Boafo, has been appointed a member of the Eminent Persons Ecumenical Programme for Peace in Africa (EPEPPA), a strategic peacebuilding initiative by the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC).
The appointment, formally communicated by the AACC General Secretary, Rev Dr Fidon Mwombeki, places Dr Boafo among a distinguished group of church leaders tasked with promoting peace, justice, and socio-political stability across the African continent.
According to the AACC, EPEPPA forms a vital part of the continental body’s Early Warning Early Response (EWER) mechanism, designed to proactively engage in conflict prevention and peace support in countries facing instability or crisis. Members of the programme are called upon to participate in solidarity visits, election observation missions, and mediatory efforts in line with AACC’s mission to deepen the culture of peace in Africa.
“This strategic initiative is meant to contribute to various efforts towards sustainable peace, justice, equality, dignity, and socio-political stability in the continent,” the AACC stated in the appointment letter dated July 11, 2025.
While the position is non-remunerated and voluntary, the AACC has pledged to cover all travel and operational costs related to EPEPPA assignments. Members are also free to determine the duration of their active participation.
Rev Dr Paul Boafo’s selection is a significant endorsement of his moral leadership and longstanding commitment to ecumenical dialogue and national development. His inclusion in the EPEPPA initiative aligns with ongoing efforts by faith-based organisations to play proactive roles in peace diplomacy on the continent.
The All Africa Conference of Churches, headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, is the continent’s largest ecumenical body, representing over 200 million Christians from more than 40 countries.
