Ghanaians now vote on issues, not party lines, don’t joke with them – Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah on why NPP lost massively in 2024

Hon. Patrick Yaw Boamah, the Member of Parliament for Okai Kwei Central, has reflected on the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) significant defeat in the 2024 general elections, attributing the party’s loss to a major shift in the voting patterns of Ghanaians.

Speaking on Kessben FM in Accra, Hon. Boamah stated that Ghanaians have become more discerning and are no longer swayed simply by political party loyalty.

According to him, voters are now paying close attention to the issues that affect their daily lives, and this shift in perspective played a crucial role in the electoral outcome.

“Ghanaians today don’t just look at your political party anymore. They are focused on the issues of the day,” Boamah said during the interview. “That’s why, with elections in Ghana now, you can’t joke with them.”

The MP acknowledged that the electorate’s focus on critical national issues such as unemployment, economic hardship, corruption, and poor infrastructure ultimately influenced their decision at the polls.

He said that the NPP underestimated the extent to which citizens were dissatisfied with the government’s handling of these pressing concerns.
