Ablekuma Rerun Election underway as chaos erupts, Hawa Koomson assaulted by thugs

Tensions escalated into violence in the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun as unidentified thugs assaulted Hawa Koomson, triggering widespread concern over electoral safety and democratic integrity.

The Electoral Commission (EC) scheduled a rerun of the parliamentary vote in 19 polling stations for July 11, 2025, following the contentious December 2024 polls, which had been marred by property destruction and incomplete collation of results

During the rerun proceedings, supporters aligned with one of the major parties reportedly orchestrated an ambush against MP Hawa Koomson. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes as party-affiliated thugs encircled her convoy, physically assaulting members of her team and forcing the MP into a hurried retreat. Sources confirmed that she sustained minor injuries and was rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

This incident marks a troubling escalation from earlier disruptions that saw EC offices attacked in January by suspected political thugs , reinforcing fears that adequate measures were not enforced despite heightened security warnings.
