Paramount Chief Hailed for Banning Galamsey Activities

Residents and Indigenous people living within the Sefwi Ahwianso traditional area in the western north region have commended and heap praises on their Paramount chief , His Royal Highness, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II who is also the President of the National House of Chiefs for saying NO to illegal mining ( Galamsey ) activities in his traditional area.
These revelations were made by the residents over the weekend during a visit by Environmental Reporting Group led by Mr Isaac Ochem ( Okyem ) a renowned journalist and an Anti – Galamsey Advocate , as part of the group’s visit to mining regions and areas where mining activities are alarming most especially ( Galamsey ) activities and report to authorities in charge for action.
The Environmental Reporting Journalists Group visited Bibiani, Subri , Asawinso , Beposo., Bugaso, Awaso , Maanse and other communities within the Sefwi Ahwianso traditional area where they revealed to the Environmental Reporting Journalists Group that His Royal Highness Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II has cautioned all his Sub – Chiefs including Divisional Chiefs within his traditional area not to directly or indirectly involved themselves into ( Galamsey) activities and that anyone found culpable will face his wrath of destoolment which they the residents believe has put fear in the chiefs in the Sefwi Ahwianso traditional area who pays allegiance to His Royal Highness Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II.
The residents disclosed during interaction with the the journalist group that, Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II is not against mining in general but he want it to be carried in the Responsible manner which will not pollute rivers ,water bodies ,, forest reserves and the entire environment that protect us human beings.
The residents added that , His Royal Highness Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi II, somewhere last year called for the arrest of one his chiefs who was involved in Galamsey activities and this according to them is a clear indication that their Paramount chief who is also the President of the National House of Chiefs does not entertain illegal mining activities which the residents and Indigenous people within are appealing to other paramount chiefs who finds themselves in mining areas to emulate the example of the Sefwi Ahwianso Paramount Chief who has DECLARED NO GALAMSEY ACTIVITIES in his traditional area.
