Communications Minister Invests in Innovative Agricultural Crowdfunding Platform

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, Samuel Nartey George has invested an amount of GHS15,000 into an agricultural crowdfunding initiative aimed at empowering smallholder farmers, particularly women with young children.

The Minister is on a strategic tour of selected technology companies as part of efforts to foster innovation, assess industry needs, and promote digital inclusion across Ghana.

The weeklong working visit aims to deepen collaboration between the government and the tech industry and inform policy direction to support the country’s digital transformation agenda.

During a visit to Grow for Me, an agriculture tech company, on Wednesday April 30, 2025, the Minister said he invested in the company driven by the impact it could have.

The Ningo-Prampram MP also expressed optimism that his investment will directly support female farmers who will cultivate farm produce on several acres of land this farming season.

“I became the first Digital Minister to engage in crowdfunding for agriculture. This money will help them buy fertiliser and other farm inputs. It will enable them to grow their crops and eventually make enough profit to pay school fees and support their families.”

Grow For Me is an innovative web-based agricultural crowdfunding platform designed to help farmers scale their operations and grow more crops through funding from individual sponsors. The platform enables sponsors to earn a fair return when harvests are sold to accredited offtakers or traded on the Ghana Commodity Exchange.

With a focus on addressing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 and 2—ending poverty and achieving food security—Grow For Me is working to create wealth and ensure food stability in rural areas, where labour shortages caused by urban migration have weakened the agricultural value chain.

The platform integrates crop insurance, expert agronomist guidance, and advanced technologies such as drone and satellite imagery to provide data-driven insights. This not only builds confidence among sponsors by showing real-time progress, but also helps farmers maximise yields and improve profits.

By bridging technology and agriculture, Grow For Me is transforming farming into a more sustainable, data-informed, and inclusive venture.
