Below is the full petition:
PETITION TO HIS EXCELLENCY JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA AND THE NATIONAL LEADERSHIP OF THE NDC ON THE NOMINATION OF RASHID ISSAH AS MCE FOR OKAIΚΟΙ NORTH
Your Excellency,
With utmost respect and a deep sense of urgency, we, the youth of Okaikoi Central, write to demand your immediate and favourable attention to a matter of strategic importance to the party’s strength and future in this constituency: The nomination of Abdul-Rashid Issah as the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Okaikwei North which comprises of the Okaikwei Central and Okaikwel North contituencies, Your Excellency, we do not make this request lightly. The NDC in Okaikoi Central stands at a crossroads and the decision as to who leads the municipality will either consolidate our growing political strength or risk undermining years of grassroots work, unity-building, and community investment. Abdul-Rashid Issah is not just the right man for the job – As a two-term Parliamentary candidate for Okaikoi Central he is the only man with the credibility, the experience, and the loyalty necessary to deliver lasting impact and sustained NDC dominance in the Okaikoi North Municipality.
1. Marginalisation of Okaikoi Central
We, the people of Okaikoi Central, feel increasingly marginalized and overlooked by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Despite our unwavering commitment and substantial contributions to the party both within and beyond the constituency, we have seen little recognition or reward, regardless of the electoral successes the party has achieved.
Notably, dedicated comrades such as Ishawu Yaro, who sustained life-altering injuries during the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, are residents of this constituency as well as Abdul-Rashid Issah himself who is currently disabled whiles performing activities in the service of the Party. We have lost loyal members in active service to the party such as Kankani in 2020, and yet our sacrifices continue to go unnoticed.
It is important to highlight that Okaikoi Central is home to the two most prominent Muslim leaders in Ghana Dr. Sheikh Usman Nuhu Sharubutu and Sheikh Umar Ibrahim. Failing to nominate an MCE from this constituency would only deepen the disillusionment among our ranks, especially given the unresolved issues surrounding our parliamentary elections and the fact that H.E. John Dramani Mahama emerged victorious in Okaikoi Central during the last presidential election.
We must also state, with emphasis, that no Municipal Chief Executive has ever been appointed from Okaikoi Central-a historical oversight that urgently needs to be corrected.
2. Proven Party Loyalist and Grassroots Commander
He has never wavered, never defected, and never compromised his allegiance to the ideals of the NDC. While others pursue personal gain, Abdul-Rashid has consistently prioritized the collective good. He commands the respect of our base and has a track record of delivering results where others falter.
3. Man of the People – Not of Convenience
Unlike opportunists who surface only during election years, Abdul-Rashid Issah lives among us, walks our streets, and shares in our struggles. His door has always been open to the youth, the elderly, and the vulnerable. His personal contributions to education, sanitation, youth empowerment, and community development are visible and verifiable. He has never needed a title to serve and that is exactly why we think he deserves one now.
4. A Strategic Asset for NDC’s Electoral Fortunes
Okaikoi North is a battleground constituency. We cannot afford to make politically tone-deaf appointments that alienate our base. Abdul-Rashid Issah’s influence, credibility, and tireless mobilization efforts have strengthened our electoral machinery. He is trusted, respected, and capable of delivering votes not just promises. Appointing him will energize the party base and demonstrate to all that the NDC rewards loyalty, competence, and true service.
5. Bridge Builder and Conflict Manager
Rashid has been instrumental in unifying factions and resolving internal disputes in our constituency. He has earned the trust of the grassroots and the elders, the youth and the opinion leaders, the Zongo communities and indigenous groups alike. As MCE, he will bring inclusiveness, harmony, and participatory governance to a municipality long in need of visionary leadership.
A Call to Action
Your Excellency, we must be blunt: any attempt to bypass Abdul-Rashid Issah in the selection of the next MCE for Okaikoi North will be met with deep disappointment, resistance, and potential demoralization among core party faithfuls. We cannot allow technocrats with no grassroots connection, no sacrifices to show, and no base of support to be parachuted into leadership positions while those who toiled in the trenches are sidelined. That would be a grave mistake.
In Abdul-Rashid Issah, we have a servant-leader whose loyalty is beyond question, whose work ethic is unmatched, and whose leadership will not only transform Okaikoi North but inspire hope across the Greater Accra Region.
We call upon you, as our President and father of the nation, to make the just and strategic decision. Nominate Rashid Issah as the next MCE for Okaikoi North.
Yours in the service of party and country,
