Our target is to ensure the clubs are self-sustainable and finance themselves – Jamal Maraby, GFA’s Marketing manager

Jamal Maraby, the Marketing Manager for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), outlined a crucial vision for the future of football in Ghana—ensuring that local football clubs are self-sustainable and capable of financing their own operations. This forward-thinking approach is seen as key to the long-term development of the country’s football landscape.

Maraby emphasized that the GFA’s strategic focus is not just about improving the performance of clubs on the field, but also about strengthening their financial foundations. In his view, the sustainability of Ghanaian clubs will have a far-reaching impact on the sport, allowing teams to become more competitive regionally and internationally.

“Self-sustainability is a key pillar of the GFA’s strategy moving forward,” Maraby explained. “It’s important for clubs to become financially self-reliant, whether through ticket sales, merchandise, sponsorships, or innovative digital platforms that engage fans and open up new revenue streams.”

Maraby further elaborated that part of this strategy involves connecting clubs with resources and expertise to help them improve their commercial operations. “Many clubs already have large fan bases, but they need guidance on how to monetize those audiences effectively. We’re providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to grow their brands and generate revenue.”
