Football is not war, so if a fan is killed at your home grounds, you should be banned for 20 years – Malik Jabir, Kotoko’s Technical Director proposes 20-year-ban for Nsoatreman FC

The tragic death of Francis Frimpong, known as Pooley, a dedicated Asante Kotoko supporter, during a match between Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC in Nsoatre, has sparked widespread outrage and calls for stringent measures against fan violence in Ghanaian football.

On February 2, 2025, during a Ghana Premier League match at Nana Koromansah Park in Nsoatre, violence erupted, leading to the fatal stabbing of Pooley. The incident has raised significant concerns about fan safety and the prevalence of hooliganism in Ghanaian football.

In response to the incident, Malik Jabir, the Technical Director of Asante Kotoko speaking with Kessben TV at Pooley night Vigil, called for a severe penalty against Nsoatreman FC. He proposed a 20-year ban for the club, stating, “Football is not war, so if a fan is killed at home on your grounds, you should be banned for 20 years.” Jabir emphasized the need for strict measures to deter such violence and protect fans.

All Ghana Premier League games have been suspended to allow for a thorough investigation and to address the underlying issues contributing to fan violence.

An investigation team, led by DCOP Lydia Donkor, Chair of the GFA’s Security Committee, has been dispatched to Sunyani to probe the incident. The team has met with regional police leadership and visited the site to gather information. Additionally, ten players have been charged for their involvement in the brawl, and several individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The GFA has engaged with various stakeholders, including the leadership of supporters’ groups, to discuss measures to prevent future incidents.
