Sam George Stands Firm: Refuses to Apologize to Akufo-Addo and Chief Justice
Tensions are running high in Parliament as Sam George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, has refused to apologize to former President Akufo-Addo and Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo. This comes despite intense pressure from key members of the Minority Caucus, who are demanding an apology as a condition for their support in his approval as Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations.
According to sources, Sam George was summoned to a meeting where he was urged to publicly apologize on the floor of Parliament to secure the backing of Akufo-Addo loyalists. However, he stood his ground, refusing to bow to the demands.
The situation has been further complicated by indications that several MPs, including Minority MPs, have expressed their intention to support Sam George regardless of the controversy. To avoid a potentially embarrassing defeat, there are reports that some Minority MPs may choose to abstain from the vote altogether.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin is pushing for a vote on Sam George’s approval, despite uncertainty over whether his caucus fully supports the move. The vote is expected to be a secret ballot, adding to the tension and uncertainty surrounding the outcome.
It’s worth noting that Sam George’s approval was eventually secured through a majority decision, with the Minority Caucus abstaining from the vote.
