“KATH Renal Department Gets Boost: NAPO Promises Free Treatment for Kidney Patients”
The Vice Presidential Candidate for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh, has assured that no renal patient will be left behind as the government rolls out free treatment for patients with kidney disease.
According to Dr. Prempeh, the NPP government will ensure that all renal patients are captured on the policy, guaranteeing access to quality healthcare.
Dr. Prempeh made this promise during a visit to the renal department of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital on Monday, December 2, 2024.
He commended the NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, for introducing the policy, demonstrating good leadership.
Dr. Prempeh emphasized that the NPP government will continue to provide practical solutions to the challenges facing Ghana’s healthcare system.
As part of this initiative, the government has launched a free dialysis treatment program for renal patients.
To facilitate this program, the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has accredited several hospitals across the country to provide free dialysis treatment to kidney patients registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
The Accredited Hospitals include, Teaching Hospitals:, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital
Regional and Military Hospitals: Ridge Regional Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, Holy Family Hospital, Berekum, Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, Takoradi and other facilities including some accredited private hospitals
The NHIA has also released 200 million cedis to these facilities to ensure the smooth implementation of the policy .
