Clement Arkorlor Calls on MPs to Prioritize Ghanaians Amidst Parliamentary Disputes

In a recent phone interview on the Maakye show on Kessben TV, Mr. Clement Arkorlor, Communications Officer for Parliament Network Affairs, shared his views on the ongoing issues within the Ghanaian Parliament.

He emphasized the need for Members of Parliament to prioritize the interests of Ghanaians above all else.

During the discussion, Mr. Arkorlor explained that their recent release aims to encourage both the majority and minority caucuses to reach a mutual understanding and agreement.

He stressed the importance of Parliament sitting down to discuss their issues and find a way forward, especially while awaiting the Supreme Court’s interpretation of Article 97(1) of the Constitution, which is at the heart of the current dispute.

Furthermore, Mr. Arkorlor suggested that if Parliament cannot reach a consensus, they should consider involving other governance institutions such as the Council of State or the National Peace Council to help maintain peace in the country.

When asked by the host about the feasibility of the NDC caucus (Afanyo Markins) and the NDC caucus (Ato Forson) sitting down to discuss a peaceful resolution, Mr. Arkorlor expressed confidence.

He noted that Parliament is composed of prominent and literate individuals capable of reaching an agreement.

Moreover, he pointed out that all MPs represent their constituencies and should prioritize the citizens’ interests, as they are the people’s voice.

In addition, Mr. Arkorlor emphasized that the role of MPs is to serve as the voice of their constituents. He urged them to put the citizens’ needs at the forefront and not let personal or political interests overshadow their duties.

He further elaborated that the ongoing conflicts within Parliament are not only causing political instability but also imposing a significant financial burden on the state.

The inefficiencies and delays resulting from these disputes are detrimental to the country’s progress and well-being.

Mr. Arkorlor concluded by calling on all Members of Parliament to reflect on their responsibilities and work towards a harmonious and effective legislative process.

He reiterated that prioritizing the welfare of Ghanaians should be their primary focus, ensuring that the nation’s interests are always placed above individual or party agendas.
