I’m going speak more in the coming days – George Afriyie reacts after GFA charged him
Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) George Afriyie has reacted strongly after the GFA charged him for comments he made on Kessben TV, in which he alleged that the Ghanaian football league is being manipulated.
The former GFA official, who served at the football body for several years, on Kessben TV’s Sports show, claimed that match-fixing, financial manipulation and undue influence were undermining the integrity of the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
His comments quickly stirred up a storm in the local football community, sparking outrage from some stakeholders, while others rallied behind him in support of his revelations.
Following the public outcry and growing backlash from various football officials, the Ghana Football Association wasted no time in responding to the allegations. The GFA issued a formal charge against the former vice president, accusing him of making defamatory statements that could tarnish the image of the association and Ghanaian football in general.
In response to the charges, the former vice president expressed his intention to speak more on the matter, suggesting that there was much more he could reveal about the alleged manipulation of the Ghanaian league system. He indicated that he had firsthand knowledge and evidence of corruption and match-fixing activities that had been sweeping through the domestic league, and that he would not back down in the face of attempts to silence him.
“Ashgold vs Inter Allies was a fixed game. Recently Dreams FC vs RTU was a fixed game. All happened under Kurt Okraku’s regime. If these are not manipulations then It’s what? I am ready for the GFA prosecutor, he should buy more ink to write because I’m going to speak more in the coming days” He said in reaction after the Charge.
