The same opportunities that were given to the likes of Asamoah Gyan & Kwadwo Asamoah at the Black Stars must be given to the local players in the GPL – Yahaya Mohammed

Former Asante Kotoko player Yahaya Mohammed called for local talents in the Ghana Premier League to receive the same opportunities that football icons Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah were granted during their illustrious careers with the Black Stars.

Yahaya Mohammed emphasized that local players possess immense talent and potential, which should be recognized and earn them a call-up to the national team,

He pointed out that the success of Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah—both of whom rose to prominence through local clubs—illustrates the caliber of players available within the domestic league.

“It’s important to give local players a fair chance. They have the talent, and with the right opportunities, they can shine just like Asamoah Gyan and Kwadwo Asamoah did” He said on Kessben TV.

The former striker also highlighted the need for a more robust scouting system that bridges the gap between the local league and the national team. He believes that coaches and selectors should pay closer attention to standout performances in the Ghana Premier League, rather than relying predominantly on players plying their trade abroad.

Yahaya Mohammed noted that giving local players the opportunity to represent the Black Stars not only boosts their confidence but also inspires younger generations. He pointed out that seeing homegrown talents succeed on a global stage could motivate aspiring footballers across the country.
