“Ghanaians Prioritize Merit Over Tribe and Religion in Elections – NAPO”

Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Running Mate to Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Vice Presidential Candidate of the NPP has called on persons who are campaigning on religious and tribal grounds to reconsider their approach, emphasizing that, religious or tribal affiliation of candidates for elections particularly to the high office of the President of the Republic, has never been one of the considerations for the Ghanaian voter in deciding who to vote for.

His call comes on the back of recent pronouncements by some religious and political actors in the country seeking to make religion a centre stage in this year’s campaign season. Some have even gone to the extent of suggesting that a Christian should be voted for as Ghana’s next President, because overwhelming majority of Ghanaians are Christians.

This, Dr. Prempeh, who was speaking at a community engagement in Ahenkro in the Afigya Kwabre North Constituency on Friday, 4th October, described as unfortunate and not borne out of the facts, as he noted that the people of Ghana have historically, elected leaders only on the basis of their competence, track record and vision. Religion or where one comes from including his tribe, he said, has never been one of the considerations for the Ghanaian voter.

“Since independence, Ghanaians have demonstrated that they do not discriminate when it comes to the choice of leaders. Religious and tribal affiliations have never been a consideration for electing Presidents in Ghana. Being a Christian or Muslim; a Mamprusi, Gonja or Asante really and truly, does not matter”, he said.

On the basis of this, Napo, as he is popularly known in political circles, expressed strong confidence that the good people of Ghana will vote massively for his boss, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP Presidential Candidate, because not only is Dr. Bawumia competent and visionary but also has a proven track record, as he has successfully spearheaded many laudable interventions even as Vice President.

“I am convinced that the good people of Ghana will vote massively for Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to be the next President of Ghana because he is competent and has proven track record and integrity. He is the most visible Vice President in the history of Ghana, and has successfully spearheaded many laudable interventions even as Vice President”.

On his part, Hon. Collins Adomako Mensah, the MP for the Constituency and 2024 NPP Parliamentary Candidate as well as Deputy Energy Minister recounted the very achievements of the NPP government particularly in the area of Energy, Education, Health and Infrastructure Development within the Afigya Kwabre North Constituency and across the country.

This, he said, justifies the need for Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Bawumia and all the party’s parliamentary candidates. Hon. Collins, who served as Deputy to Napo at the Ministry of Energy, eulogized the vice presidential candidate for his outstanding leadership acumen and hard work. He described Napo as an excellent political godfather to him and to all who came his way.

After the community engagement, Hon. Dr. Opoku Prempeh commissioned a newly constructed ultramodern Sports Complex at Ahenkro, which was funded by the Ghana National Gas Company Ltd and supported by Nana Ahenkrosei Poku IV, the Chief of Ahenkro. After the commissioning, an inaugural football match was played between the Old Stars team led by Captain Stephen Appiah and the Afigya Kwabre North 11, where the former trashed the latter by 3 goals to 1.
