NDC Promises to Abolish ‘Unjust’ Taxes if Elected – Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

North Tongu MP, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has criticized the government’s continued collection of the COVID-19 tax, branding it as unnecessary and a reflection of corruption within the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP). Speaking at the campaign launch of NDC parliamentary candidate Mavis Kukua Bissue in Apowa, Western Region, Ablakwa noted that Ghana remains one of the few countries still imposing such a tax, despite the pandemic’s peak having passed.

The MP also condemned the betting tax, stating that both levies have become burdensome to citizens and serve as a means for diverting public funds. He called for the abolition of these taxes, urging voters to elect a majority of National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Ablakwa assured voters that the NDC would bring greater transparency and accountability in government spending and that scrapping arbitrary taxes would relieve the financial pressures on Ghanaians. He specifically encouraged the people of Ahanta West to vote for Mavis Kukua Bissue, emphasizing the importance of securing an NDC majority in Parliament.

In her address, Mavis Kukua Bissue echoed Abrokwa’s call for change, urging constituents to support her candidacy in order to improve the conditions in Ahanta West. She also appealed to the youth to have faith in the electoral process, expressing optimism about the future under NDC leadership.
