“Eastern Youth Group Backs Call for New Region, Citing Development Needs
The Eastern Youth Development Association has thrown its weight behind the chiefs and traditional leaders’ appeal for a new region to be carved out of the Eastern Region. The youth group, championing regional development, believes this move will bring massive growth to the area.
Citing key facts, the association argues that the Eastern Region’s vast land size (19,323km2), population (2.925,653), and contributions to the national economy justify the need for a new region. They also highlight challenges in accessing urgent services due to the region’s sparse district layout and limited development, including inadequate healthcare, water, electricity, and economic opportunities.
The group proposes a new region with 16 districts, urging political aspirants to support this vision. They call on citizens and stakeholders to rally behind this dream, making it a reality to bridge development gaps and alleviate poverty.
This move aims to bring development closer to the people, addressing the region’s socio-economic needs and unlocking its full potential.”
