World Vision Ghana rolls out “Enough- End Child Hunger and Malnutrition” Campaign for healthy growth in children
As part of the effort to end Child hunger and Malnutrition across the country, World Vision Ghana has launched it’s global campaign, christened
“Enough- End Child Hunger and Malnutrition”.
The three year multi-sectoral seeks to ensure that every child enjoys enough nourishing food as it will be implemented across all World Vision Ghana programme areas in the country.
The goals of the campaign include enabling children to be actively visible and heard in hunger, enhance nutrition and address food security at policy levels.
Besides, it will ensure that more children benefit from improved food security,
nutrition and resilience through prioritised services.
Article 24 of the UN Conversation on the rights of the child emphasis the fundamental need for children is to be well nourished as stake holders must act quickly to save millions of children on the brink of starvation.
Child Hunger and Malnutrition have a huge impact on children’s rights to education, protection from violence, participation and adequate standard of living and health care.
At the launch in Accra, the World Vision Ghana, National Director, Laura Del Valle said close to 25 million children are at risk of starvation as 149 of such children are stunted as a result of lack of nutritious food
She added that, when children gives through hunger and malnutrition deprives
them from reaching their full potential and reduces them also to poor health, and pointed out that lack of education as well as increase exposure to violence impact negative on future generation.
According to her there are enough to provide for children but conflict and climate change among others have affected the food rights of children adding that children below the age of 5 years are experiencing malnutrition which affects the average development.
Board chair of World Vision Ghana Dr. Mary Amoaku Coleman said her outfit is committed to address your food needs of children particularly nutritious food which ties into Sustainable Development Goals (SDG2) saying no child must go to bed hungry.
For his part the Deputy Minister of health Alexander Akwasi Acquah said government is fully committed to support the campaign and however urged stakeholders in the food and nutrition space to collectively work together to help end child hunger and malnutrition across the country.
He commended World Vision Ghana for their continuous support to vulnerable children and assured that government will collaborate with the other health agencies to implement nutritional programs to end child hunger.
