“Ghana’s National Plan of Action: APRM Press Conference Discusses Progress and Challenges”

The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) held a press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra, Ghana, on July 21st, 2024. The theme of the conference was “Development and Harmonization of Ghana’s Targeted Review National Plan of Action.”

The APRM is a voluntary arrangement amongst African states to promote political stability, economic growth, and sustainable development through systematic assessment and peer review of governance at the Head of State level.

Most Rev. Professor Emmanuel Asante, Chairman of the National Pension Regulatory Authority-Ghana (NPRA-GC), delivered a keynote address at the conference. He emphasized the importance of international trade in driving economic growth and development. “Trading opportunities are indeed the lifeblood of the world economy,” he said. “They provide goods and services that are traded across borders, bringing wealth and prosperity to nations.”

Professor Asante also highlighted the benefits of international trade, including participation in the global economy and opportunities for foreign direct investment. He urged African countries to harness these opportunities to drive economic growth and development.

The press conference was attended by representatives of the APRM, government officials, and members of the media. It provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss Ghana’s progress in implementing its National Plan of Action and the role of the APRM in promoting good governance and development in Africa.

The APRM has been working with Ghana to develop a Targeted Review National Plan of Action, which aims to address key governance challenges and promote economic growth and development. The plan is aligned with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

The press conference was an important step in promoting transparency and accountability in governance and in showcasing Ghana’s commitment to the APRM process. It also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to engage with the media and the public on the importance of good governance and economic development in Africa.
