The Golden stool (Sika Dwa Kofi) to be displayed at Otumfuo’s Silver Jubilee anniversary
The climax of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will witness the display of the Golden Stool, known as Sika Dwa Kofi to the public.
As part of the grand durbar scheduled for Sunday, May 12, 2024, the artefact, believed to have celestial origins attributed to the late Asante priest, Okomfo Anokye, will be brought forth for public viewing.
Nana Otuo Siriboe II, Paramount Chief of the Juaben Traditional Area and Chairman of the anniversary Planning Committee, disclosed this during a press conference at the Regional House of Chiefs on Thursday, May 9, 2024.
He emphasized that the procession leading to the Manhyia Palace, the ceremonial grounds for the event, will stretch from the palace to the airport, showcasing a myriad of the kingdom’s treasures, including the Golden Stool.
“The procession with which Otumfuo will come to the Manhyia Palace where the grand durbar will take place will be a huge one.
“Its length would span from the Manhyia Palace to the Airport. The procession will cart some of the treasures of the Kingdom out to show the world.
“Among them would be the Golden Stool. The Golden Stool will not always be kept out of the public view and so we will bring it out for the world to catch a glimpse,” opemsuo.com quoted him to have said.
The festivities, coinciding with the Akwasidae festival in the Asante calendar, are expected to draw thousands of dignitaries, government officials, and well-wishers from far and wide.
Notable attendees include President Akufo-Addo, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as foreign dignitaries such as the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, the Foreign Minister of Morocco, and a representative from the Ivorian Presidency.
