“Bawumia crucial in Taming Mahama”

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has reminded delegates who will be voting in tomorrow’s parliamentary primaries to look beyond the event of the day, and unite in sending home a message to former President Mahama that he is a spent force on the Ghanaian political landscape.

The Director of Finance and Administration of the NPP, William Yamoah, said the necessary guidelines of the party ahead of its parliamentary primaries scheduled for tomorrow, as well as the NPP’s prospects for winning the 2024 general elections.

Mr. Yamoah believes Vice-President Bawumia is crucial in muting the opposition NDC flagbearer John Mahama, and the delegates are capable of appreciating the issues and playing a leading role in the grassroots efforts to dislodge Mahama and sustain the development efforts initiated under the incumbent government.

He noted that the delegates of the party do not make mistakes in selecting the best and most suitable MP candidates.

According to him, delegates will elect candidates based on informed decisions from various aspirants who possess the political wherewithal to complement the efforts of the NPP flagbearer and Vice- President Mahamudu Bawumia.

Mr Yamoah stressed that this strategic approach would augment Dr. Bawumia’s chances of increasing and maximizing votes in various constituencies, ultimately contributing to retiring John Dramani Mahama’s political career in the 2024 general elections.

He expressed hope that those elected on tomorrow will be individuals in whom the constituencies have confidence, who have the capacity to retain power and secure additional parliamentary seats for the NPP.

Guidelines

On the election guidelines, he emphasised that the selection process would mirror the presidential primaries conducted on November 4, 2023.

He mentioned that certain activities would be carried out by the Electoral Commission (EC), with security measures entrusted to security agencies.

Addressing the conduct of aspirants and delegates, he stated that aspirants should refrain from displaying personal images or campaign materials within the voting vicinity.

“Congregating for votes by aspirants/delegates on election day is prohibited, and delegates are expected to avoid attire indicating support for any specific aspirant,” he stated.

For verification purposes, he stated that approved identification methods include Voter ID Card, Ghana Card, Party ID Card, and Passport.

“To maintain the integrity of the electoral process, the ban on phones at voting centres has been reinforced. Delegates and aspirants are prohibited from taking pictures or displaying images of their cast votes. The counting process will be conducted openly to ensure transparency.

“We expect a peaceful, lawful, and orderly process come Saturday, January 27, 2024. The party is committed to a smooth electoral exercise as it positions itself for success in the parliamentary primaries and the subsequent general elections”, he added.
