The President’s speech at the Ghana bar conference was uncalled for – Honourable George Loh
The deputy legal affairs director for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) says the speech made by the president, Nana Akuffo Addo at the Ghana Bar Conference was in contrast to what he was supposed to say.
Speaking on Kessben TV’s Maakye with Kwame Appiah Kubi, he said the president’s speech at the conference was politically inclined which they were not happy about because the bar conference was not solely organized to delve into political matters.
“The purpose of the bar conference is for professional development, looking at the legal profession and how we will make it better. The PRO of the bar association even criticized the president’s speech for using the platform to do blatant politics so the bar itself has said that what the president did was not the right thing to do “.
The 2023 edition of the Ghana Bar conference took place on September 11 in the central regional capital of Cape Coast under the theme; “Ensuring high standards and integrity in public life; the role of the legal profession.
Honourable George added that the primary matters they are supposed to address at the conference are issues relating to the welfare of Lawyers and their performance at the bar.
“This conference has nothing to do with politics. We are there as a group of professionals to deliberate on matters of importance. You should know the purpose of every platform you are given and move according to that,” he added.
” It is not only members of the NDC who were not happy about the president’s speech at the bar conference but also other people from different political backgrounds”.
He claimed that if such conferences are allowed to be politicized, the conference will not be able to achieve its main aim of coordinating the program.
