China has made a 3D device that allows long-distance relationship couples to kiss ‘virtually’
Are you in a long-distance relationship and missing your partner so much? Fret not because you can now smooch your beau even if you’re miles away from each other.
Well, it’s a little complicated. There’s a device out there that will allow you to feel the lips of your partner and hear the sound of their smooches while you’re geographically apart.
In China, a start-up has created a kissing device designed for people in long-distance relationships. The MUA, named after the sound people make when they kiss (as in, ‘mwah’ ahahaha lmao), is a 3D mouth-shaped silicone device that allows its users to experience the sensation of a real kiss.
MUA has the internet talking as it imitates the movement and pressure of the kiss through the use of the motion sensors hidden in the lips. To make the experience more authentic, it also replays the kissing sounds and even mimics the temperature of real lips.
It even claims that people can feel the gesture as it can be transferred and felt by the other person once their partner activates the device and kisses the contraption.
MUA can also be linked via Bluetooth and accompanied by an application, allowing the device users to download the kissing data they submitted.
The device resembles a phone stand with realistic lips on its front. To use the device, it has to be plugged onto the phone’s charging port and activated using the app. Once activated, the device will kiss the user back once they kiss them first.
The kissing machine was invented by Zhao Jianbo who founded the Beijing-based company Siweifushe. According to him, the inspiration behind the invention came up after being in a lockdown due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic where people are not allowed to leave their homes for many months.
“I was in a relationship back then, but I couldn’t meet my girlfriend due to lockdowns,” said the inventor.
At the time, Zhao Jianbo was still a student at the Beijing Film Academy. Due to the pandemic, he then focused his graduate studies on the lack of physical intimacy in video calls. The device became more fully realized when he set up Siweifushe and released MUA as its debut product with a price worth 260 yuan (roughly around P 2,054).
During its initial release on January 22, MUA took the tech world by storm as more than 3,000 kissing devices were already sold, and the firm even received about 20,000 orders. It is even available in different colors.
However, according to media reports the product has received mixed reviews with some saying the device made them feel uncomfortable, while others complained that it lacks tongue (lmao, they really want to have a MOMOL sesh with the MUA).
This isn’t the first time that a similar kissing device has been created. In 2011, a group of researchers at Tokyo’s University of Electro-Communications invented a “kiss transmission device.” Meanwhile in 2016, a “Kissenger” (kiss and messenger) was invented by Imagineering Institute in Malaysia.
I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder that people have to think of innovative ways to feel their beau’s smooches, huh?
