Laurette Korkor Asante-Otchere Honored At The Prestigious Women’s Choice Africa For Excellence In Social Protection
Laurette Korkor Asante-Otchere Esq., the Deputy Director-General of the Social Security of National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) was, on Friday, December 2, 2022, honored at the Fourth Edition of the prestigious Women’s Choice Awards Africa, at the Labadi Beach Hotel, for achieving excellence in the provision of social services to the good people of Ghana and beyond. She emerged as one of the “Top 10 Women in the Public Sector”.
The award conferred on Laurette Otchere, according to Global Ovations, organizers of the Awards, was in recognition of her remarkable strides, phenomenal accomplishments, outstanding leadership and tireless efforts to advance the cause of women and in the provision of social services in general.
As the Deputy Director-General of Ghana’s biggest social protection scheme, SSNIT, Laurette Otchere has been at the forefront of implementing a lot of the reforms that the Trust has witnessed in recent years with the view to realizing its core objective of becoming the model for the administration of Social Protection Schemes in Africa and beyond.
Laurette became the Deputy Director-General of SSNIT in 2017, having been appointed by President Akufo-Addo, to help his Government’s efforts to properly administer the Nation’s National Social Security Scheme for and on behalf of the workforce. She is in charge of Operations and Benefits, which constitute the core mandate of SSNIT. Laurette is the first Ghanaian woman to occupy this coveted position.
It is also worthy of note that, Laurette has been recognized globally for her scholarship in the area of social protection particularly pension administration, and has, on a number of occasions, been invited by international organizations including the World Bank and the International Social Security Association (ISSA) and the African Union, to address global audience on matters of social protection and women empowerment.
Laurette Korkor Otchere Asante is a lawyer by profession with over 25 years working experience in various fields of law. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Columbia University and a Juris Doctorate (JD) degree from Rutgers University Law School in the United States.
