Dada Hafco says Usher was wrong to bring Nigerian artistes on Global Citizen Festival stage
In giving his commentary about the success of the 2022 Global Citizen Festival, which took place at the Black Star Square in Accra, Ghanaian highlife musician Dada Hafco expressed his displeasure with Usher Raymond’s decision to introduce Nigerian artistes on stage.
Dada Hafco told Caleb Nii Boye on Showbiz 927: “I have a problem with the fact that Usher Raymond came and introduced Naija acts. It’s a big deal because we were the hosts. Qatar did not play qualifying games for the World Cup because they are hosting the tournament. Certain things must favour the person on whose land the event is being held.”
For Dada Hafco, Usher took a huge opportunity away from Ghanaians when he unveiled Tiwa Savage and Oxlade to perform alongside himself.
“Because we were the host, if he wanted to introduce anybody, it must be people from here. It must be musicians from here.
The big deal is that Usher is a global artiste. Anybody he mentions goes a long way into people’s search,” Dada Hafco pointed out.
He continued to say that some people across the world watched the show because of Usher. And so whoever he introduces has an advantage in the international music market.
Dada Hafco concluded: “The person may not care about Ghanaian artistes but cares about Usher, who is global, and whatever Usher does on stage. So if Usher mentions a person’s name, the person will want to know the artiste.
“As Ghanaians, we must start trumpeting ourselves and do things that benefit us.”
