It’s not about Kotoko or Hearts, I campaigned for Barnieh to be invited because he’s good – Sarfo Gyamfi

Former Asante Kotoko player Sarfo Gyamfi is excited after the head coach of the Ghana Black Stars Otto Addo invited Accra Hearts of Oak’s forward Afriyie Barnieh into the squad for the AFCON 2023 qualifiers.

The Asante Kotoko legend had apparently called on the handlers of the team to invite Afriyie Barnieh after his impressive display in the Ghana premier league with Accra Hearts of Oak.

Many were amazed as to why a Kotoko legend will advocate for an Accra Hearts of Oak player for national team call-up but Sarfo Gyamfi speaking on Extra Time with Joe Laka insisted that he was an advocate of quality no matter where you coming from that’s why he pushed for Barnieh to be invited.

“It is not about Kotoko or Hearts of Oak, but the point is that when the player is good, you should campaign to get the chance to play at that level because he can.

When you watch Barnieh, you can see that he is very firm with the ball and that gives an advantage to the team’s midfielders.

Sometimes when these local players are invited to the national team, they give so much respect to the foreign guys which does affect them not to give off their best.

I’m urging the coach to start him in the game because he has the abilities and the capabilities to play” Sarfo said on Kessben Sports.
