BoG Urges Banks to Make Cyber Resilience a Leadership Priority

Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Mrs Matilda Asante-Asiedu, has urged banks to move beyond mere regulatory compliance and make cyber resilience a key leadership priority.
She said this requires stronger collaboration within the financial sector and effective implementation of the Cyber and Information Security Directive (CISD) 2026.
Mrs Asante-Asiedu made the remarks at a workshop organised by the Bank of Ghana and the Ghana Association of Banks (GAB) for financial industry board members.
The workshop provided a platform for board members and industry leaders to discuss ways to strengthen cybersecurity governance across Ghana’s financial sector.
The event formed part of a broader industry-wide fraud awareness initiative aimed at promoting responsible leadership, ethical conduct and sound corporate governance as key measures to combat fraud.
The interactive session, which included a question-and-answer segment, also allowed participants to exchange views on emerging governance and cybersecurity challenges confronting the banking sector.
Addressing participants, Mrs Asante-Asiedu stressed the need for banks to take a more proactive approach to cybersecurity.
“There is a need to move beyond compliance and make cyber resilience a core leadership priority, supported by stronger collaboration and effective implementation of the Cyber and Information Security Directive (CISD) 2026,” she said.
