Nuba residents benefit from extended free NHIS registration, renewal exercise
Residents of Nuba in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region have benefited from an extended free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal exercise.
The initiative, led by the Assembly Member for the Nuba Electoral Area, Emmanuel Kwasie Amihere, popularly known as Ghanaman, with support from the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, was aimed at helping more residents access healthcare through the NHIS.
The exercise, which was initially scheduled for one day, was extended to two days during its second phase to enable more residents to register, renew their memberships and replace lost or damaged NHIS cards.
The first phase recorded 75 new registrations, 80 membership renewals and 15 card replacements, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 170.
During the second phase, 133 residents registered for the first time, while 70 renewed their memberships and 50 others replaced their NHIS cards.
The Assembly Member for the Nuba Electoral Area, Emmanuel Kwasie Amihere, expressed appreciation to the Jomoro MP and Deputy Minister of Transport, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, as well as the Municipal Chief Executive, Benedict Boadi, for their continued support for residents of Nuba.
According to him, the support from the two leaders made it possible to extend the exercise and provide more residents with access to the service.
Mr Amihere said the initiative had eased the burden on residents, particularly those who may have encountered difficulties accessing NHIS registration and renewal services.
He commended Dorcas Affo-Toffey and Benedict Boadi for their commitment to improving the welfare of residents and expressed hope that similar interventions would be introduced in the community.
The Assembly Member also urged beneficiaries to make effective use of their NHIS membership by seeking medical attention promptly whenever necessary.
He reaffirmed his commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to bring more development-oriented initiatives to the Nuba Electoral Area.
