Dr. Franko Naro questions GFA’s use of FIFA development funds
Sports analyst Dr. Franko Naro has questioned how the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is using funds it receives from FIFA for football development, particularly in relation to infrastructure.
Speaking on Kessben Sports, Dr. Naro argued that discussions about football infrastructure should also consider the financial support available to the GFA.
“They are making it seem as though building football infrastructure is not the responsibility of the GFA. But every four years, the GFA receives $8 million. Can’t we ask how that money is being used and what tangible investments it has made in football infrastructure?” he said.
FIFA’s Forward 3.0 programme provides each member association with up to $8 million over the 2023–2026 four-year cycle. Ghana previously accessed $8.6 million under the Forward programme between 2016 and 2022, with FIFA records showing that about $900,000 of the approved spending during that period went toward infrastructure.
Dr. Naro’s comments therefore raise questions about the allocation of development funds and the extent to which they are being translated into physical football facilities across the country.
