The Member of Parliament for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District in the Central Region, Hon. Alhaji Kobina Ghansah, has supported 200 students gaining admission to Senior High School (SHS) with student mattresses, trunks and GH¢200 each.
The donation, done today, is aimed at easing the financial burden on parents and ensuring a smooth transition for the students into second cycle education.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Hon. Alhaji Ghansah said education remains his topmost priority.
“As MP and education is my best priority, this is the time that I should let my people know that I am capable of doing what the children need to continue their journey to SHS. Sometimes parents find it difficult to provide such items to their wards and this is the time that I have to reduce such burden from the parents,” he said.
He recalled his own difficult experience growing up and assured constituents of more support in the coming years.
“As compared to our era where we found it difficult for our parents to provide such items for us, I as an MP will make it easy for our children and next year will be massive,” he added.
On her part, the District Chief Executive for Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, Hon. Olivia Bentil, advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the opportunity and stay focused on their education.
She urged the students to make the MP proud for the support and not engage in any behaviour that would cause destruction to their education.
Some of the beneficiaries also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the MP for the gesture, describing it as timely and life-changing.
