Andrews Kwame Perprem is writing a new chapter for the New Patriotic Party abroad — one rooted in his village beginnings in Ghana’s Eastern Region and now leading from Brussels.
The Ghanaian development consultant and community leader has been elected Secretary of the NPP Belgium Chapter, where he is tasked with mobilizing international support and shaping the party’s diaspora strategy.
Humble Beginnings In Abuakwa South
Born in the Abuakwa South Constituency, Perprem grew up in the village of Agyapomaa under difficult conditions. Raised by his maternal great-grandmother, he combined subsistence farming and fishing with school, often walking barefoot to class.
Despite the hardship, he excelled academically. That drive took him from Agyapomaa to Accra, and later into international development work in Europe.
“His story reflects resilience, discipline and the power of education,” a party member in Belgium noted.
Rising Through Diaspora Politics
Perprem’s political journey in Europe began as NPP Antwerp Regional Secretary. He later contested and won a decisive victory to become the national Secretary for the NPP Belgium Branch.
As Secretary, he is now at the forefront of diaspora mobilization — engaging Ghanaians in Belgium and across Europe to support the party’s vision of liberal democracy and economic empowerment.
He is also a regular political writer and commentator, publicly advocating for the NPP to return to its core principles as it prepares for future electoral contests.
Advocacy Beyond Politics
Outside party work, Perprem is founder of Save The Mining Community-Ghana (SMC-Gh), an organization campaigning against the environmental and social impact of illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.
Rather than rely only on military raids, SMC-Gh pushes for holistic economic alternatives for mining communities.
Back home in Agyapomaa, he remains connected to the grassroots. He frequently funds local initiatives, including providing meals and transportation for BECE candidates.
Balancing Two Worlds
Professionally, Perprem works as an independent researcher and consultant based in Antwerp, Belgium. He says his experience in development consulting informs both his political work and his advocacy.
“The diaspora has a role to play in nation building,” he has said. “We must contribute ideas, resources and leadership to move Ghana forward.”
With his election to lead NPP Belgium, Perprem joins a growing list of diaspora Ghanaians taking up frontline roles to shape the party’s international engagement ahead of 2028.
