GES & WAEC are unfair to private schools, Qualified private school teachers are sidelined from WAEC marking and invigilation – Ghana Private Schools Association 

The Vice Chairman of the Private Schools Association of Ghana, Philip Boakye Yiadom, has accused the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) of treating private schools unfairly.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Mr Boakye Yiadom said qualified teachers from private schools are often excluded from participating in the marking and invigilation of examinations despite having the necessary qualifications and experience.

“Yes, it’s true. GES and WAEC are not fair to private schools. Private school teachers are not part of those who mark and invigilate despite having qualified personnel,” he said.

According to him, the exclusion of qualified private-school teachers raises concerns about equal opportunities within Ghana’s education sector.

He argued that private schools have a pool of experienced and qualified teachers who could contribute to the administration and assessment of national examinations.

Mr Boakye Yiadom’s comments have renewed discussions about the role of private schools and their teachers in Ghana’s education system, particularly regarding their participation in major examination processes overseen by WAEC.

He called for greater inclusiveness and fairness in the selection of teachers for examination-related duties.
