“Vote For Experience, Vote For Institutional Memory” – Chairman Buga Pledges Constituency Defence Force After Vetting For NPP 1st Vice Chairman

Incumbent National 3rd Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and aspiring 1st Vice Chairman, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, popularly known as Chairman Buga, says delegates should vote for him to preserve institutional memory at the top of the party.

Speaking to the media after his vetting at the NPP headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, Alhaji Masawudu thanked Allah for the opportunity and extended greetings to former President Nana Akufo-Addo, former Vice President and flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and all party executives from polling station to national level.

He said during vetting he told the committee that for the sake of institutional memory, delegates must maintain him as a national officer.

“During the vetting, I have already disclosed my view on this election that, for the sake of institutional memory, the delegates of the New Patriotic Party should vote for me. If you look at the three positions of chairmanship – the National Chairman, the First Vice, the Second Vice, and the Third Vice, it is four. Today, when you look at my own boss, Chairman Stephen Ntim is not going. The First Vice Chairman is not going. Second Vice Chairman is not going, and left only the National Third Vice Chairman, who is the incumbent and now vying to become the next National First Vice Chairman,” he explained.

According to him, his four years of experience as a national officer is crucial to correct past mistakes and move the party forward.

“I am pleading to the delegates of this party that per the experience that I have for four years, maybe during the 2024 election, we did one or two things that didn’t go well for the party. I think me coming back as part of the national officers, any decision that we took that didn’t favour us, we will not take that decision again. We will change to another step that will help the forward march of the New Patriotic Party,” he said.

Alhaji Masawudu said his performance when he acted in the absence of National Chairman Stephen Ntim has shown he can lead the party.

“Per the experience, per the hard work, the dedication, and the zeal that I have, when Chairman, my own boss, went on break, the entire nation saw the way I handled this party. I comported myself very well. I have chaired several times. I have chaired National Council meetings perfectly. So I think, in the absence of the Chairman, I, Alhaji Masawudu, can perform the Chairman’s work. So I am begging the delegates to vote for Alhaji Masawudu Osman, a.k.a Chairman Buga,” he said.

Touching on his message to delegates, the incumbent 3rd Vice Chairman said the NPP in opposition is facing harassment and intimidation from the NDC, and he has a plan to stop it.

“Today, the party is in opposition. I’ve seen the harassment, the intimidation the NDC is putting on us. I am going to bring a plan that is called Constituency Defence. Every constituency will have its own defenders who will defend the constituency. This kind of ridiculous attitude exhibited by the NDC in the 2024 election will not happen again,” he declared.

He said delegates have seen his hard work and loyalty, including defending the party’s flagbearer and standing up for arrested party members.

“Delegates have seen the work Alhaji Masawudu did since I have been elected. During by-elections, people arresting our people unconstitutionally, before the person will even reach Police Headquarters or BNI, Alhaji Masawudu will be there. NDC financiers have selected some people to insult our flagbearer. I was the only person who came out and attacked them. So I think the good delegates of this party will pay for hard work, not money,” he stated.

Alhaji Masawudu Osman is currently the only member of the top four chairmanship positions seeking re-election, with National Chairman Stephen Ntim, 1st Vice Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, and 2nd Vice Chairman Rita Asobayire all not seeking re-election.

The NPP will on October 3, 2026 converge at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to elect new national officers to lead the party’s reorganization towards the 2028 general elections.
