NPP National Organizer Aspirant Kwadwo Agyei Yeboah has appealed to Ghanaians and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) not to celebrate the legal troubles of the party’s Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
In a discussion on Kessben Maakye show in Accra today, Yeboah said no Ghanaian should be happy about Wontumi’s predicament, stressing that political differences should not lead people to rejoice over another person’s misfortune.
“I know no well-meaning Ghanaian would be happy with what has happened to our brother Wontumi,” he said.
Yeboah described his views as those of a layman, noting that influential people in politics sometimes make mistakes because of poor advice or communication. He urged party faithful to support rather than ridicule colleagues facing difficult moments.
He also cautioned against celebrating anyone’s imprisonment, saying even those who dislike a person should not wish them trouble or illness.
Addressing allegations surrounding land reclamation, Yeboah said investigations should establish whether there was a reclamation and planting of coconuts or whether the activity amounted to illegal mining.
“If we find out there was indeed a reclamation on the said land, then the nation was unfair to Wontumi. But if time proves otherwise, then Wontumi neglected his duties on surveillance and due diligence,” he stated.
Yeboah further backed the NPP leadership’s decision to pursue an appeal if there is tangible evidence to challenge the court’s ruling.
He concluded by urging NPP members to exercise caution in their public comments, warning that careless statements could have implications for the party and ongoing legal proceedings.
