Antoinette Urges NPP to Treat Regional Elections as a Warm-Up, Not the Main Event
Ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s regional delegates conference, Deputy General Secretary Dr Antoinette Tsiboe-Darko is calling on aspirants and their supporters to keep campaigns focused on issues, not insults, as the party heads into its Central Regional contest.
Speaking to Hajia Asana Gordon after chairing the vetting of 28 aspirants at the party’s Cape Coast office, Dr Tsiboe-Darko offered a message of reassurance to those who might not win: losing an internal election doesn’t mean losing your place in the party. Opportunities, she said, come at different times, and defeat now doesn’t define a person’s future within the NPP.
Her appeal extended beyond the vetting room. She urged aspirants to steer clear of personal attacks and insults during campaigning, framing the contest as a family matter rather than a fight between rivals. She also asked eventual winners to bring their opponents into party activities and campaign roles afterward, a gesture she believes is essential to building unity heading into 2028.
Describing the vetting process as a success, Dr Tsiboe-Darko said all 28 aspirants demonstrated the strength and capability needed to lead, a sign, in her view, that the party still has reason for optimism about 2028.
In a separate development from the same regional contest, incumbent Central Regional Communications Officer Isaac Mensah, known as Blankson, made his case for a renewed mandate, pointing to his record and expressing confidence that delegates would back him again.
