Cross-Border Egg and Tomato Trade Resumes After Ghana Lifts Export Ban
The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry has announced the lifting of the ban on Ghana’s egg exports to Burkina Faso, paving the way for the resumption of cross-border trade.
The Ministry also confirmed that restrictions on the importation of tomatoes from Burkina Faso into Ghana have been removed, a move expected to strengthen trade relations and boost economic cooperation between the two neighbouring countries.
The decision follows high-level engagements between Ghanaian and Burkinabe authorities aimed at resolving trade concerns.
According to a statement from the Ministry, the restriction on egg export-particularly consignments from Dormaa in the Bono Region-had been introduced by Burkina Faso as a precautionary measure over quality concerns linked to exports from some countries.
To prevent similar challenges in the future, both countries have agreed to establish a Joint Technical Committee to promptly address trade-related issues and facilitate smoother bilateral commerce.
Ghana and Burkina Faso have also committed to negotiating a Bilateral Trade Agreement to deepen economic ties, reduce trade barriers, and improve market access for goods and services.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has informed Burkinabe authorities that Ghana will participate in this year’s International Arts and Crafts Trade Fair in Burkina Faso with a high-level delegation showcasing Made-in-Ghana products and services.
