Dr. Alfred Baku Encourages Church of Christ Kasoa Ashtown to Give Cheerfully as He Ministers the Word of God
The Church of Christ, Kasoa Ashtown, Accra was filled with inspiration last Sunday as Dr. Alfred Baku, the Former Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa, ministered to the congregation and called on members to support the work of Christ with cheerful hearts.
Dr. Baku, a proud and devoted member of the Church of Christ, Ghana, is well known across various branches of the church for his commitment to preaching and for his generous spirit. His visit to Kasoa Ashtown was another reminder of his dedication to using his platform to advance the gospel.
“Give Cheerfully to Promote the Greater Work of Christ”
Addressing a packed congregation, Dr. Baku delivered a powerful message centered on faith, stewardship, and service. He urged the church members to remain steadfast in the word and to see giving as an act of worship, not obligation.
> “When we give cheerfully, we are not just supporting the church. We are promoting the greater work of Christ — reaching souls, building communities, and showing the love of God in practical ways,” he told the congregation.
He emphasized that every member has a role to play in the growth of the church, both spiritually and materially. According to him, God delights in a cheerful giver and multiplies the seed sown for His kingdom.
Members listened attentively as he drew lessons from scripture, encouraging them to stay rooted in Christ despite economic challenges and to prioritize the work of evangelism and community support.
A Leader Known for Faith and Philanthropy
Dr. Alfred Baku is widely respected not only for his distinguished career in mining but also for his Christian values. As the former Executive Vice President and Head of Gold Fields West Africa, he led the company during a period that saw Ghana become the leading producer of gold in Africa.
His contributions to the industry earned him an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Science from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), Tarkwa.
Outside of corporate life, Dr. Baku is celebrated as a philanthropist. He is known for generously supporting churches, schools, hospitals, and community projects. Through Gold Fields Ghana, he also funded major legacy projects including the Tarkwa T&A Sports Stadium, the Tarkwa-Damang roads, and several schools for host communities.
Church leaders at Kasoa Ashtown described his visit as timely and uplifting.
“Dr. Baku doesn’t just preach with his mouth. He preaches with his life. His example of giving and service encourages all of us to do more for the work of God,” one elder of the congregation said.
