If You’ve Got Nothing to Hide, Come Out of the Dark: Manasseh Tells Ayariga

Investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni has publicly challenged Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga over Parliament’s decision to hold the Bank of Ghana Governor’s appearance in camera, saying the closed-door session undermines transparency.

In an open letter, Manasseh said he reviewed Ayariga’s press conference explaining the decision but found the justification unconvincing. He described the Majority Leader’s defense as labored and said many Ghanaians had reached the same conclusion after watching the clip.

According to Manasseh, holding such sessions behind closed doors breeds unnecessary suspicion, even when nothing improper may be involved, and does more harm than good to the country’s democratic process.

He called on Ayariga to embrace greater openness going forward, arguing that transparency, not secrecy, would better serve the government’s credibility.
