US Embassy Accra Announces Two-Week Closure; Visa Services to Be Affected

The United States Embassy in Accra has announced a temporary closure of its Consular Section from July 20 to July 31, 2026, due to scheduled maintenance works.
The closure is expected to affect visa processing and other routine consular services during the two-week period.
In a public notice, the Embassy said it would not be able to process visa applications or provide regular consular services while the maintenance exercise is ongoing, except for life-or-death emergencies.
“The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Accra will be temporarily closed to the public from July 20 through July 31, 2026, for scheduled maintenance,” the Embassy stated.
It assured applicants that visa appointments scheduled within the closure period have been rescheduled.
The Embassy added that applicants whose passports or Consular Reports of Birth Abroad are ready for collection will still be able to receive their documents on designated dates.
Individuals who have received confirmation that their documents are ready can visit the Embassy for collection on July 23 or July 30, 2026, between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
The Embassy said normal operations are expected to resume after the maintenance exercise is completed.
The temporary closure comes as the Embassy continues to handle visa applications from Ghanaians planning international travel.
