Juaben MP Hon. Francis Owusu-Akyaw Calls for Clarity on Delayed Mineral Royalty Payments to Constituencies

The Member of Parliament for Juaben Constituency, Hon. Francis Owusu-Akyaw, is worried about the delay in paying mineral royalties to support development projects in his constituency and others.

He asked the Deputy Minister of Finance Hon.Thomas Nyarko Ampem, to explain when the last mineral royalty payments were made to constituencies on Kessben News.

Hon. Owusu-Akyaw thinks that delays in releasing these funds can hurt development plans in communities that need them for infrastructure and projects.

He said it is only fair that communities that help Ghana’s mineral resources are given the expected benefits through timely distribution of mineral revenues.
Hon. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the Deputy Minister of Finance, said the most recent payment of development funds was 100million Ghana cedis which was made on 3rd June 2026 with additional transfers from the government of 302.5million Ghana cedis between January to May 2026 making a total of 402.4 million cedis to the mineral royalty development funds.
The Juaben MP wants the Ministry of Finance and other authorities to ensure that mineral royalty payments are made on time to support development in constituencies. .
Mineral royalty payments come from Ghana’s mining sector. Which is meant to help with development especially in areas affected by mining.
This issue is part of a conversation about managing and distributing mineral resources to ensure that mining communities get real benefits.
