Odeefuo Amoakwa Boadu VIII Urges Central Region Youth to Embrace Culture at Breman Odwira Festival Launch

“Most youths have thrown away our unique customs for foreign lifestyle” – Central Regional House of Chiefs President

The President of the Central Regional House of Chiefs and Paramount Chief of the Breman Traditional Area, Odeefuo Amoakwa Boadu VIII, has called on the people of the Central Region, especially the youth of Asikuma Odoben Brakwa District, to hold fast to Ghanaian tradition and customs.

He made the call on Saturday during the official launch of the 2026 Breman Odwira Festival at Breman. This year’s festival is themed: _“Building a Legacy with Our Youth and Heritage.”_

*“Our Culture is What Identifies Us as Ghanaians”*
Addressing the media after the launch, Odeefuo Amoakwa Boadu VIII said culture and tradition are the identity of Ghanaians and must not be abandoned for foreign practices.

He expressed concern that many young people today have discarded their unique customs in favour of foreign lifestyles, a trend he said is making indigenous culture appear “outmoded.”

“Most of the youths at this era have thrown away our unique culture and customs, and they have accepted the foreign lifestyle which is killing us and making our own look outmoded,” the paramount chief lamented.

He urged residents of Asikuma Odoben Brakwa and the wider Central Region to embrace their heritage, saying it is what sets Ghanaians apart and builds generational pride.

*Odwira Festival: A Call to Preserve Legacy*
The Breman Odwira Festival is celebrated annually to thank the gods and ancestors for a bountiful harvest and to foster unity among indigenes. With the 2026 theme focusing on youth and heritage, organisers say the festival will feature cultural displays, traditional games, and youth engagement programmes aimed at passing knowledge to the next generation.

Odeefuo Amoakwa Boadu VIII charged chiefs, elders, parents, and stakeholders to play active roles in teaching children the values, language, and practices that define the Breman and Central Region identity.

The launch brought together chiefs, queen mothers, government representatives, and community members who pledged support for activities lined up for this year’s celebration.
