Ghanaian immigrants in South Africa use Asamoah Gyan’s name to escape trouble – Ghanaian returnee from South Africa

A Ghanaian returnee from South Africa, Akwasi Addo, has revealed that some illegal immigrants in the country use the name of former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan to avoid arrest during police encounters.

Speaking on Kessben FM’s Drive Time show with Fante Quoo, the returnee claimed that mentioning Ghana and the football icon’s name often influences how some police officers react.

According to him, “Many immigrants in South Africa use Asamoah Gyan’s name whenever they are caught. Once they mention Ghana and say ‘Asamoah Gyan,’ the police sometimes loosen things for them.”

South Africa remains home to a large number of African migrants, including many from Ghana, seeking economic opportunities.
