Passport Applications to Be Cancelled After 2 Months If Not Completed, Foreign Affairs Ministry Warns

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that passport applications left incomplete for two months will be automatically cancelled, effective immediately.
In a public notice issued on Thursday, the Ministry said the new validity period applies to all applications from the date of initial submission. An incomplete application refers to any submission that requires further vetting, including pending supporting documents, incomplete biometric capture, or cases awaiting re-capture.
Applicants affected by the cancellation will lose their fees, which the Ministry said are non-refundable. They will be required to start a fresh application process and pay the applicable fees again.
“The general public is, therefore, encouraged to complete applications on time to avert cancellations,” the notice stated.
The Ministry urged applicants to respond promptly to requests for additional documents or biometric updates to avoid delays and cancellation. For further information, applicants can contact the 24-Hour Call Centre on 0302 754 200.
The Ministry reassured the public of its commitment to improving service delivery and reducing delays in passport processing.
Thousands of Ghanaians apply for passports monthly, and officials say the policy is intended to clear backlogs caused by abandoned and incomplete applications in the system.
