Waste piles up at Oti landfill in Ashanti Region after compactors breakdown, left with only one machine working at the site

Huge volumes of waste have begun piling up at the Oti landfill site in the Ashanti Region following the breakdown of one of the landfill’s compacting machines.

According to a report by Ato Kwamina on Kessben FM, the situation has slowed waste management operations at the site, leaving only one compactor currently functioning.

The report indicated that the remaining machine is struggling to handle the increasing volume of refuse being transported to the landfill daily, raising concerns about sanitation and environmental safety in the area.

Residents and waste management workers have reportedly expressed fears that prolonged delays in clearing the accumulated waste could lead to unpleasant odours and possible health risks.

Authorities are being urged to repair the faulty compactor or provide additional equipment to restore smooth operations at the landfill and prevent further accumulation of waste.
