Non-custodial punishment needed to tackle sanitation offenders in Kumasi – Wofa Kofi Appiah

Wofa Kofi Appiah, has called for the introduction of non-custodial punishment measures to address the growing issue of poor sanitation in Kumasi.
Speaking during an interview on Kessben FM, Wofa Kofi Appiah stated that many residents continue to flout sanitation regulations because existing penalties are not strict enough to deter offenders.
According to him, authorities should consider alternative forms of punishment such as community service, public clean-up exercises, and environmental sanitation duties for individuals caught littering or dumping waste indiscriminately.
He stressed that such corrective measures would not only punish offenders but also educate them on the importance of keeping the city clean. He added that Kumasi’s sanitation challenges require collective responsibility and stronger enforcement of local by-laws.
Wofa Kofi Appiah further urged city authorities and sanitation officers to intensify public education campaigns to help promote environmental cleanliness and public health in the Ashanti Region.
