Let’s make a deliberate policy to cut down on the use of plastic – KOD calls for a strong policy to reduce plastic waste in Ghana

Ghanaian media personality Kwabena Owusu Dankwah (KOD) has called on authorities to implement a deliberate national policy aimed at reducing the use of plastics as part of efforts to improve sanitation across the country.

Speaking on Kessben Maakye, KOD emphasized the urgent need for practical measures to tackle plastic pollution, which continues to pose serious environmental and public health challenges in Ghana.

“Let’s make a conscious and deliberate policy to cut down the use of plastics,” he urged, noting that excessive reliance on single-use plastics is contributing significantly to poor sanitation, clogged drainage systems, and flooding in urban areas.

Environmental advocates have long warned about the impact of plastic waste, particularly in major cities where waste management systems are often overwhelmed. KOD’s remarks add to growing calls for stricter regulations, increased recycling initiatives, and public education on sustainable practices.

While some progress has been made through cleanup campaigns and awareness drives, stakeholders say a comprehensive policy backed by enforcement is needed to achieve long-term results.
