REVEALED: ECG explains there is (DUMSOR) power interruptions in Ashanti Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has clarified the cause of recent power disruptions in parts of the Ashanti Region, attributing them to ongoing maintenance works prior to a separate incident at Akosombo.

Speaking on Kessben FM, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, Public Relations Officer for ECG in Ashanti West, stated that the outages were linked to the replacement of faulty transformers in the region.

“Before the fire explosion at Akosombo, we were changing some transformers, which is affecting power in Ashanti Region,” he explained, noting that the exercise was part of efforts to improve power stability in the long term.

The clarification comes amid public concern over recurring “dumsor,” with many residents and businesses expressing frustration over unreliable electricity supply. According to ECG, the maintenance work was necessary to prevent more severe technical challenges and enhance overall service delivery.

While acknowledging the inconvenience caused, the company assured residents that such interventions are aimed at strengthening the power distribution network and reducing future outages.
