Wasa Nananko Assembly Member Flags “Unapproved” KG Block Project, Demands Halt

Wasa Akropong, Western Region – April 23, 2026 – The Assembly Member for Wasa Nananko, Hon. Pious Ampong, has raised red flags over the construction of a 2-Unit Kindergarten Block at Wasa Akropong A, saying the project was not approved in the 2026 Municipal Composite Budget.

In a press release issued Wednesday, Ampong called on the Wasa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly to immediately halt works on the site and account for the source of funding.

“No Provision in 2026 Budget”

According to Ampong, the approved 2026 budget for Wasa Amenfi East makes “no provision for the construction of a 2-Unit KG Block at Wasa Akropong A.”

He noted that the only KG blocks approved in the budget are at Wasa Afransie and Subri Nkotie, while the only approved JHS block is at Wasa Adondoi.

Cites Breach of Financial Laws

The Assembly Member referenced Section 98 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921) and Section 16 of the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), stressing that all expenditures must be captured in the approved budget and authorized by the General Assembly.

“Projects outside the 2026 Budget undermine public trust and proper planning,” Ampong said.

Three Demands to Assembly

Hon. Ampong demanded that the Municipal Assembly:
1. Halt all works on the unapproved project immediately
2. Provide Nananom, Assembly Members, and the public with the source of funding and approval documentation
3. Refer the matter to the Finance & Administration Sub-Committee for review

“I support educational infrastructure in Nananko. However, due process, transparency, and accountability must guide all developments,” he stated.

Calls for Probe by MCE, RCC

Ampong has called on the Municipal Chief Executive, the Municipal Coordinating Director, and the Regional Coordinating Council to investigate the alleged breach.

He pointed out that the 2026 Budget Statement was presented to the General Assembly and approved on October 30, 2025.

Officials Yet to Respond

The Wasa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly had not issued a public response to the allegations at the time of publication.
