A newly formed political group, known as the Base Movement, has embarked on what it describes as a “mammoth walk” as part of efforts to announce its presence and mobilize support across the country.
The group is also preparing to inaugurate an ultra-modern office complex at Tesano – Cardoff in Accra, signaling what members say is a strong commitment to building a formidable political force.
Speaking to Kessben Maakye reporter, Derrick Baafi, a leading member, Mr. Lawrence Agyei, he said, the movement is made up of individuals who are passionate about addressing national challenges and championing a new direction for governance. He explained that the formation of the group is driven by the need for a reliable platform to pursue their shared vision.
Mr. Agyei noted that many members of the movement align with the political ideology of former NPP presidential aspirant Kennedy Agyapong, but felt they lacked the necessary space within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to fully express and implement their agenda.
He revealed that Dr. Oti Bonsi took the initiative to bring together like-minded individuals who believe in Mr. Agyapong’s vision, forming the Base Movement as a vehicle to advance those ideals.
Despite this alignment, Mr. Agyei clarified that the group has not yet engaged Mr. Agyapong directly nor secured any formal agreement with him.
However, he expressed optimism that once the movement is fully organized, it will formally appeal to him to take up a leadership role.
The group also dismissed comparisons with other political breakaway factions that struggled after leaving their parent parties. Mr. Agyei emphasized that the Base Movement is taking a more strategic approach by building a solid structure before selecting a leader.
He added that the movement is gaining traction nationwide, attracting supporters of Kennedy Agyapong and positioning itself as a potential force in Ghana’s political landscape.
