Toyota Voxy Brouhaha: It’s not a ban but a restriction – National Road Safety Authority clarifies

The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has clarified that the recent public concern surrounding the use of the Toyota Voxy is not a ban, but rather a restriction on its operation under specific conditions.
Speaking in an interview on Kessben FM Morning Show hosted by Wofa Kofi Appiah, the PRO for the Authority, Kwame Kodua Atuahene, emphasized that the NRSA has not outlawed the popular multi-purpose vehicle.
According to Mr. Atuahene, the directive is aimed at regulating how the Toyota Voxy is used, particularly in commercial transport services. He explained that concerns have been raised about safety compliance, including vehicle modifications and suitability for certain categories of public transportation.
“The public must understand that this is not an outright ban,” he stated. “It is a restriction designed to ensure safety standards are met and to protect passengers and other road users.”
The clarification follows widespread speculation and confusion among transport operators and the general public, with many believing the vehicle had been completely prohibited from Ghanaian roads.
The NRSA has urged vehicle owners and transport unions to comply with the outlined guidelines, stressing that enforcement measures will focus on ensuring adherence rather than penalizing lawful use.
Industry stakeholders are expected to engage further with the Authority to better understand the scope of the restrictions and ensure smooth implementation.
