President Mahama back home from official visit to Élysée Palace in France

President John Dramani Mahama has returned to Ghana after an official trip to France, where he visited the Élysée Palace and participated in high-level engagements.
During the visit, he co-chaired the 2026 One Health Summit with French President Emmanuel Macron, drawing attention to rising global health challenges and emphasizing Africa’s role in promoting sustainable solutions.
On Wednesday, President Mahama held bilateral talks with President Macron at the Élysée Palace, a meeting seen as a key step in strengthening relations between Ghana and France. The talks came after the successful One Health Summit held in Lyon, which both leaders jointly led.
President Macron commended Mahama for his leadership at the summit and announced that Ghana would be the first country to benefit from the newly introduced National Health Compact.
He also praised Ghana’s Accra Reset Initiative, describing it as highly significant and referencing it during the summit discussions.
In response, President Mahama expressed appreciation to France and China for their support in Ghana’s debt restructuring efforts, noting signs of economic recovery and stability.
The bilateral discussions covered a wide range of issues, including trade, security at both regional and global levels, development cooperation, food security through all-season farming, advancements in artificial intelligence, maternal healthcare, and major infrastructure projects such as the Accra-Kumasi Expressway. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to democracy, peace, and a rules-based international order.
